Parents
Autism Hub
Made For Parents
The website was made to signpost parents to resources they may need while navigating the autism diagnosis pathway.
In Devon
We want to best support parents and carers of children in Devon, by getting the most specific information.

Who are we?
We are students at Peninsula Medical School, advocating for parents and carers of children with autism to access support.
Why is this important?
We surveyed 17 parents in Devon about obtaining their child’s diagnosis
Wellbeing
Managing well-being during this period is another key concern. Over a third of participants (35.3%) reported struggling with their mental well-being, and 29.4% said that caring for their child while waiting for a diagnosis added further stress..
How many diagnosis?
While some participants (17.6%) reported receiving a diagnosis in 2023 or 2024, many are still waiting, often for extended periods ranging from over 2 to 5 years. This reflects the significant delays that families can face when seeking a diagnosis.

Found it hard to obtain a diagnosis
Limited support during application
Had no confidence in navigating the process
With thanks to Eilidh’s family
Our advocacy journey began with Eilidh’s family story.

Quotes from parents in Devon
You are not alone in the process

Jenny
I wish I had known more about the autism spectrum and typical assessment processes.

Tommy
I know people haven’t been supported and signposted to the wrong places

Tim
My advice is to join courses about autism and learn as much as you can.
